Chucho Valdés
The 2022 Detroit Jazz Festival Artist-in-Residence is Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés. Chucho performed a solo piano concert as part of the Jazz Fest preview event at WSU Hilberry Theater on April 30, 2022. It was a moving and beautiful performance by this legend of Afro-Cuban music.
Tribute to Chick Corea
I posted this when I learned of the passing of Chick Corea at the age of 79. He was the artist in residence at the 2018 Detroit Jazz Festival. In addition to seeing him perform there, I was also fortunate to see him live at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe. The best way I know to honor him is to share some images and a short video. He was a jazz legend.
